The design of the new nine-story Children’s Hospital, along with other planned street, way-finding, and entry improvements, provided a fresh and modern update to the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus. The new hospital’s architecture was designed to be bright, optimistic, and sympathetic with the existing buildings. The design maximized views of the landscape, use of natural light, and connection to the community through extensive use of glass in public spaces and private rooms. The project was designed to be responsible to the environment. The Green Guide for Healthcare (GGHC) was followed to document the sustainable features of the project, including a rooftop healing garden for patients and their families.
inici group worked closely with the design and construction team as well as hospital staff and facilities personnel to create an extensive equipment list with over 20,000 items and implement a move transition plan with multiple departments, including a 45-bed NICU and 25-bed PICU.
